Volunteering for Esperanza's looks different to everyone. We have our farm volunteers who help with the husbandry and training of our farm sanctuary residents, our foster homes for our shelter to service dog placements, foster homes for our puppy partner program, foster homes for readily adoptable livestock, our community outreach events, and more.

Making Change Possible
From dogs to goats to pigs oh my! We need foster homes. Sometimes its for a tortoise, other times for a goat. We only let you accept what you are prepared for. The first step to fostering any animal for us is to complete our Foster Foundations Course. Make sure you type in Code:

Enrichment, cleaning, and feedingare just a starting point for the things we do here. As we grow and evolve there will be projects, assistance with vet visits, piggy spa days, and more. We want our volunteers to be active with the animals in a safe and sane way and learn to interact and train them using humane evidence-based methods as well.Apply

GARDENING & FOOD SOVEREIGNTY
From seed to harvest, we empower our community with the knowledge and resources to grow their own food. Whether it’s through our free seedling program, regenerative gardening workshops, or hands-on experience at our farm, we help people take control of their food security. Our programs focus on making fresh, homegrown produce accessible to all—especially those utilizing SNAP/EBT—so they can stretch their budgets while nourishing their families. Join us in building a resilient local food system, one plant at a time!

While operating costs fluctuate we put some of our most stable and common costs. Horses, Cows, and Goats are fed based upon their weight. They have 24/7 access to their hay so they eat about 4,290 lbs per month minimum. They get extra when it is chilly out and we feed 3 different types of hay. This costs us an average of 750.00 per month in hay this varies depending on the season as well. Seniors & Injured horses need to be on joint supplements. This for 1 geldings costs us 40.00 per monthAll animals are on a probiotic this costs us 190.00 per monthPig feed per month just pelleted formula no fruits and veggies or greens (which they get daily) costs us 84.00 per monthChicken feed, Geese feed, Turkey feed, scratch, and larvae treats costs us about 280.00 per month. This is just for bagged formula and doesn't include the fruits, veggies, or greens they get. Our regular monthly straw and shavings for bedding costs per month works out to about 112.50 we purchase this quarterly. We pay 80.00 per horse for farrier services every 8 weeks. We pay 500.00 to 700.00 total 1-2 times a year for the cows hooves to be trimmed. We pay 145.00 per pig for the pigs hooves and tusks to be trimmed 3 times a year. We do the goats hooves ourselves we have worked extensively on cooperative care to allow us to cut this from our budget.
We transport the sheep 3 times per year to be shorn and the total cost for this for 3 sheep is at 180.00It costs us an average of 117.00 per month in food, treats, and supplements for our Service Dogs in Training and approximately 1100.00 over their time with us for medical care per dog. This does not include any adoption fee or rescue fee we needed to be able to pull them and place into our care. It costs an average of 4200.00 In training time and classes to get a SDiT trained to be an active working dog and they are in our program from 8months to 13 months depending on the specific tasks they are being trained to do.
